For me, the name of the game when it comes to bras is variety. Every woman’s underwear collection is going to be different depending on their style of clothing. If you’re a “wear a shirt every day” type of gal, you won’t have the need for a strapless bra, but if you’re a bardot-loving lady, you’re going to need more strapless than basic bras. To be honest, there isn’t a right or wrong answer to the number of bras you should own, but it is better for your boobs if you have a good variety. The most important thing about your bra collection is that they should fit you perfectly.
Let’s start with the basics: your every day bras. What you define as an ‘every day’ bra will depend on the shape of your breasts and what style you’re comfortable with. Some people prefer the basic, smooth T-shirt bras, but some people prefer the likes of a balconette bra. I like to have at least 5 every day bras that I can rotate daily as wearing the same bra every day will make them wear out faster. Let’s be honest, I know we all have our favourite bra that we absolutely dread putting in the wash because none of the others live up to the booby magic THAT bra creates… but it has to be done. Personally, I think your collection of every day bras should include a white, a black, a nude and a couple of bright colours.
Whether you’re a gym bunny or a gymaphobe, every woman should have a good fitting sports bra in their collection. Your breasts are supported mainly by skin and fragile ligaments called Coopers ligaments. During repetitive or high impact sport, the breasts bounce and pull on your Coopers ligaments, forcing them to stretch, which will eventually lead to your worst nightmare… sagging breasts. *Squirms* This is why a sports bra is essential for keeping the girls in place and giving you the support you need.
Ahh – strapless bras. This style of bra is the most versatile of them all and can be worn with any neckline, but is specifically ideal for garments that are strapless, low back, halter neck or bardot. For me, a strapless bra is a staple for the underwear drawer. I don’t know about you but the thought of being able to see your bra straps with a bardot dress makes me cringe down to my pancreas. The good thing about a strapless bra is that a lot of them allow removable straps, basically making the bra a 2-in-1.
DATE NIGHT BRA
Ladies, who doesn’t love a good sexy underwear shopping spree?! This is something special. Whether it’s your anniversary or just a special night in general, you’ll want to wear something that makes you feel confident and sexy. My go-to is a lacy, push up number but yours might be a lacy bralette or baby doll. The most important thing is to find your favourite style that will make you ooze with confidence.
So, there we have it, a staple list of bras you need in your collection. According to our Boobuddy Instagram poll, 64% of you own less than 10 bras! As I said, there is no right or wrong answer to how many bras a woman should own, as long as they fit you perfectly. Is it time for a bra wardrobe overhaul, maybe? Go and throw your lumpy, once-was-white-now-grey bra from 2011 in the bin!
